Monika Osiecka

Sculptor and writer, Monika Osiecka is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where she belonged to the studio of Grzegorz Kowalski, the famous Kowalnia. She came to sculpture through a fascination with the culture of Italy and Iran, where she spent her childhood and early youth. Born in Milan, she studied Persian and Italian language and literature at the University of Warsaw. But an increasing fascination for art led her to quit and to enroll at the Academy of Fine Arts. She creates abstract sculptures and female nudes. Her material of choice is stone, which she works on international sculpture symposia all over Europe. She has been writing notes and a commentary on her own creativity and life since her student days, in 2011 she published a book "Mirror Fragments", that offers a record of creative self-awareness and female experience, unusual in Polish literature. Author of the monument "Alas Pacis" at Montormel, France, for the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Normandy, unveiled in 2014. Author of the Monument to Women of the Warsaw Uprising, unveiled at Krasińskich Square in Warsaw in 2021.
